Zeist is one of the municipalities on the Utrecht Hill Ridge that collectively form the Stichtse Lustwarande. With more than 100 country houses and estates, this zone stretches from De Bilt to Rhenen. Among others, the 1e and 2e Dorpsstraat - close to the festival site - are part of it. The Warande originated in the 18e century when many wealthy Dutchmen had country houses built on cheap land to escape the crowds and unhealthy environment of the city for a few months a year.
There is much to discover around the Slot. One of the highlights is the sculpture route connecting the Slot and the centre of Zeist.
