In the festival theme The future of music - Music of the future, 'future' and 'time' each play their own role. What does it mean for time to pass? Can we be 'ahead of our time' and make our future dreams come true? We are busier than ever and have little time left for each other, time to do nothing or time to play together. Futura - Future, the time of your life! tells the story of Momo and the time savers, written by Michael Ende at a time when there were no computers or mobile phones. Have we fallen under the spell of the 'time savers' whose time no one should waste? Narrator Eric Borrias takes you back to that time that seems very long ago. Anne-Maartje Lemereis, Composer of the Fatherland, composed the project song.

The aim of this school project is to encourage and develop pupils' singing pleasure and talent, by rehearsing 13 songs with all participating schools and working on a special performance. After all, singing together is the basis of musical development. Music teacher Lea Zantinge and their own school's music teachers started singing lessons in February to rehearse the songs. At each school, music teacher Heiko de Jonge gave a body percussion workshop. The pupils of group 4 from all Zeister Free School locations, were taught to play the lyre by music teacher Lea Zantinge.

Just before the festival, each school will have a rehearsal led by choral conductor Annemiek van der Ven with Matthijs Overmars at the piano. On Friday morning 23 May, you can attend the festive performance in the Great Church Hall of the Evangelical Brethren Church, as the conclusion of this special project.

Eric Borrias tells the story Momo and the time savers, 200 pupils from six schools in Zeist and Utrecht sing the songs and 70 play the lyre. All this led by choir conductor Annemiek van der Ven, with Matthijs Overmars at the piano, an unforgettable experience!

biography

Annemiek van der Ven / choral conductor
Annemiek van der Ven completed her Music Teaching studies, with a minor in classical singing, at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and obtained her diploma in choral conducting cum laude at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. As first alto, she was a member of the female a cappella ensemble Wishful Singing for several years.

From her student days, Annemiek conducted several choirs in different genres. She was the permanent conductor of the VU Choir and conducted ensembles such as The Gents and Coqu on a project basis. As a teacher, she gives lessons and workshops at various primary schools to introduce children to classical music. She also works as a music educator and conductor at Vocaal Talent Nederland.

Eric Borrias / narrator
Eric Borrias had a penchant for storytelling and acting from an early age. In secondary school, he founded his own cabaret group and played in an amateur theatre company. In the 1990s, Borrias developed into a full-time storyteller and eventually joined Het Verteltheater, where he achieved great success with adaptations of famous children's books. He also appeared at major storytelling festivals in Europe. Since the solo performance Inside the Gates on Jules Schelvis - survivor of Sobibor extermination camp - he regularly performs at commemorations, symposia and exhibitions on World War II. For Inside the Gates he received the Rachel Borzykowski medal, a token of appreciation from the Sobibor Foundation. Meanwhile, Borrias is increasingly active as a storytelling coach, director and voice actor.

Matthijs Overmars / piano
Matthijs Overmars studied school music and choral conducting at the Utrecht Conservatory. During his studies, he and four fellow students founded the a cappella group Intermezzo, which grew into a professional and internationally acclaimed vocal ensemble with its own concept and signature.
In recent years, Overmars worked as a choral conductor, teacher of music, choral singing, handicrafts and flute making at the Zeister Free School. Earlier, he was also associated with Academy De Wervel, Hogeschool Helicon, the Zeister Kamerkoor and as a teacher at the multi-year conductor training programme of the Utrecht Centre for the Arts. In 2010, he started the project children's choir Spring.
