Thomas Oliemans, baritone and piano
Thomas Oliemans is first and foremost a singer, of course, but he takes his place behind the grand piano with equal ease. This musical storyteller pur sang proves time and again that stories are not bound by style or time, but universal and enduringly topical. And whether he sings classical repertoire by Schubert and Brahms, or light music by Harry Bannink and Bram Vermeulen: in Under the apple tree Thomas Oliemans weaves his talents into one whole in a colourful collection of lieds and lieds about paradise and the Fall. And about discovering nature as a habitat and the place humans occupy in it. Do we know its limits and respect them? And who are we ourselves as ‘nature beings’?

Thomas Oliemans / baritone
Thomas Oliemans is a particularly versatile interpreter of the vocal repertoire. His musical intelligence and charismatic charisma endear him to audiences. He has performed countless opera roles in major opera houses and oratorios, working with conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Hartmut Haenchen, Jaap van Zweden and Karina Canellakis.
Oliemans also feels particularly at home in light music. In the 2022/23 season, he was artist in residence at the Concertgebouw. That resulted in recitals of Schubert's Winterreise in which he accompanied himself on piano and a podcast series about this cycle. With Amsterdam Sinfonietta, he garnered great success with the concert Formidable!, which intertwines classical chamber music with French chansons.
Thomas Oliemans proved to be an excellent storyteller. Throughout the evening, you were aware of his pleasure in interacting with us, not just with his voice. You couldn't help but notice his lively eyes.
