Since its inception in 2015, International Song Festival Zeist has staged eight successful editions and is counted among the top three song festivals in Europe. Every year in May, the festival celebrates the art of song for 10 days in the intimate ambience of the Church Hall of the Evangelical Brethren Church, a stone's throw from Slot Zeist. We will do so with recitals, an extensive talent development programme of professional song duos, much attention to education and participation of audience and amateur singers, and a large-scale schools project. Because keeping the song repertoire alive and passing on the love for the art of song to future generations is key.

And that is appreciated, as visitors invariably rate the festival with a generous 8. For eight years now, some 4,000 visitors have listened to well-known and unknown songs performed by internationally renowned musicians; made excursions into choral and chamber music; presented innovative programmes with emerging talents; experienced how musicians blossom during the master classes; listened to fresh interpretations of the song during the Young Artist Platform and let ourselves be touched by children and young people during the presentation of the schools project and the youth concerts.

International Song Festival Zeist is well embedded: locally, nationally and internationally. Close to home, we work closely with KunstenHuis Idea. On a national level, we cooperate with Royal Conservatoire The Hague and Friends of the Song. In recent years, we have also worked hard on international partnerships. It is now a tradition that young, promising song duos from Oxford International Song Festival perform at the festival and that winners of the Young Artist Platform in turn get the stage in Oxford. And that is just some of the wide-ranging connections the festival has managed to make.

The festival is supported by a small staff of 6 freelancers, over 20 volunteers and an active board. Due to the departure of one of our board members, we are looking for a:

Board member (x/v/m)

Are you someone who:

  • has a heart for the art of song and a feel for PR and marketing in different keys?
  • understands the art of reinforcing what has been built and dares to inspire new interpretations of it?
  • can support us in liaising with media and cooperation partners?
  • finds it challenging to make new connections?
  • roll up your sleeves wherever necessary?

Then we are looking for you!

Like no one else, you understand that a foundation board is actively involved, but that moving towards a more remote working method will benefit the festival. You will work with our artistic team - consisting of bass-baritone Henk Neven and pianist Hans Eijsackers - our business manager Yara Deuss and the communication specialists of Wilgehof+Sodaar. About once a month, you will participate in board meetings and, in addition, you will have a number of concrete other tasks that we will agree on by mutual arrangement.

Will you join our board?

You will come to work in an inspiring and friendly environment and be part of an enthusiastic and ambitious team that together strives for the finest music and concert experience for our audience. We look forward to getting to know you. Would you like more information first? Then email or call our chairman Jef Oomen. He will be happy to answer your questions.
