organisation

The International Song Festival Zeist Foundation was established on 5 June 2015. The organisation is set up as a foundation with a board. The foundation subscribes to the Culture Governance Code, the Fair Practice Code and the Diversity and Inclusion Code and applies these or has included actions in its policy to implement the principles and recommendations of these codes.

The board secures all functions in programming, education, marketing, organisation and finance. In addition, the festival works with several freelance staff (programming, publicity, photography, fundraising, ticket sales, accounting) and several dozen volunteers.

remuneration policy

The International Song Festival Zeist does not employ any staff members. All persons performing at the festival or working in the organisation are hired on a contract basis. The International Song Festival Zeist aims to remunerate all performers and employees in accordance with a (related) collective agreement or guideline. Of the total fees in the budget, 65% of the remuneration is currently Fair Pay. The aim is for 100% of remuneration to be Fair Pay by 2028.

This is detailed below for the various functions on stage and behind the scenes.

Soloist recitals
The starting point is the 2023 rate list of the Ntb Vakbond for musicians, in this case the rate for Day Performance Musicians Chamber Music (concert of up to 2 x 60 minutes). These rates are averages and do not represent a prescription. The average fee of the performers at the International Song Festival Zeist is (considerably) higher than the Ntb rate because of the high (inter)national level of the soloists.

Performers Education & Participation (teacher, conductor, pianist, composer, poet)
The starting point is the 2023 rate list of the Ntb trade union for musicians, in this case the hourly rate for music education projects. These rates are averages and do not represent a prescription. The hourly fee of the performers Education & Participation in the festival is slightly lower than the Ntb rate. We will raise this in steps to the Ntb level in the period 2025 - 2028.

Composer required work Young Artist Platform
The starting point is the GeNeCo (Genootschap Nederlandse Componisten) fee table.

Our remuneration is in line with this table.

Teacher Masterclass professional song duos/Speaker/Juror member Young Artist Platform/Writer Programme notes/Photographer
For these positions, we are not aware of any collective agreement or guideline. It is therefore difficult to determine what constitutes Fair Pay. The average fee of these performers in the festival is the result of consultation/negotiation. The average hourly rate is in line with the market.

Artistic direction/business direction/production management/marketing and communication
For these positions in the festival organisation, the collective labour agreement for Music Ensembles (ME) is an adjoining collective labour agreement. We apply this collective labour agreement. The hourly rate for freelance employees (ZZP) is determined by increasing the cao hourly rate of the relevant salaried position by 50% surcharge.

For a number of positions (business management, production management), remuneration is already in line with the collective labour agreement ME, and for the remaining positions (artistic management, communication and marketing) we want to raise remuneration to the level of the collective labour agreement ME in steps during the period 2025 - 2028.

Volunteers
Festival volunteers receive no remuneration.

Board members
Festival board members receive no remuneration.
